Barrier-Free Theatre

Barrier-Free Theatre is All-In Players' signature program. It is a form of drama therapy in which participants with and without disabilities work together to write and perform in their own staged play.

During the 8-month production process, the ensemble comes together to generate ideas for characters and stories through brainstorming and improvisational activities. The directors then write the script, and the group rehearses the show together, performing annually in March.

Everything is tailor-made for the actors and their skill and ability levels, from characters and plot lines to the exact words spoken on stage. All-In Players strives to create an environment that fosters growth in each participant, but will also inspire self-confidence as the actors see themselves succeeding in their roles.

Drama Therapy

All-In Players utilizes Drama Therapy techniques (like Barrier-Free Theatre) in its programming. But what is Drama Therapy?

Drama Therapy is the intentional use of theatre processes to achieve therapeutic goals. This approach can provide the context for participants to tell their stories, set goals and solve problems, express feelings, or achieve catharsis.

Through drama, the depth and breadth of inner experience can be actively explored and interpersonal relationships can be enhanced. Participants can expand the repertoire of dramatic roles to strengthen their own life roles.
